Most USMC rebuilds that I have personally seen have replacement straight stocks without the finger grooves, but I have seen them both ways. The stock is a straight stock with grasping grooves that has been sanded to death (rounded finger grooves, buttplate and magazine floorplate overhang). What specific features are you seeing that are unusual for a USMC rebuild?įrom what I see, the finish on the receiver is so worn that it is hard to tell if the park is the typical yellow USMC color. What is the barrel date? It definitely looks to have been rebuilt during the latter part of the war, possibly postwar since there is no real way to be sure in absence of markings. Some of the features I am seeing are kind of unusual for a USMC M1903, but not impossible. It's an interesting 'story' but without documentation all you know is that it belonged to someone who was a veteran.
